About: Introducing a piece of Mid Century Modern history: the George Mulhauser "Mr. Chair" lounge chair for Plycraft. This iconic chair, newly upholstered in a fabulous mustard yellow leather, is constructed from steel and bentwood walnut, and is the perfect complement to any living or workspace.

George Mulhauser was an American industrial designer who gained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for his furniture designs. He was one of the most important designers of the Mid-Century Modern era, and his designs were frequently featured in the pages of the most prestigious design publications of the time.

Plycraft was an American furniture manufacturer founded in the 1940s, known for producing high-quality and stylish furniture. The company was particularly well known for its chairs and ottomans, which were often designed by leading designers of the time, including George Mulhauser. Plycraft was considered one of the most important furniture manufacturers of the mid-twentieth century, and their designs were often compared to those of Charles and Ray Eames.

Condition Details: This extraordinary "Mr. Chair" has recently undergone a comprehensive and transformative restoration and we love the results. The walnut plywood frame was professionally refinished and brought back to it's original luster but some signs of wear remain including small veneer repairs and a few scratches (all of which can be seen in the photos provided). With that said the wood is overall in very good shape and the woodgrains are absolutely mesmerizing in natural light. The leather cushions have been re-upholstered in a fabulous mustard-colored thick-cut genuine leather hide that shows only the inconsistencies of that of a once live animal.

The steel-framed base shows only minor tarnishing and the chrome ring on the top of the chair base shows some pitting and minor surface rust. The chair swivels 360 degrees with ease and the original mechanism that adjusts the angle of recline works exactly as designed allowing this chairs to recline to a nearly vertical position. This exquisite chair is ultra-comfortable, structurally sound and ready for decades more of use. Please view all photos for details on this lounger's current condition.
