Title: Danish Modern Tambour Door Credenza in Teak by Bernhard Pedersen for Bernh. Pedersen & Søn, Denmark, c. 1960's
About: Audacious in scope, design and materials used this extraordinary Danish-made credenza is as functional as it is visually arresting. Constructed from a mix of solid and matchbook-veneered Burmese teak this striking sideboard is ideal for collectors and designers alike. Featuring fully functioning tambour doors, a finished back and exceptional old-growth variegated woodgrains unique to the teak species this versatile piece in many ways represents the zenith of Danish Modern Design.
Bernh. Pedersen & Søn is a family owned furniture maker with a strong tradition in high quality cabinetmaking since the company’s founding in 1902. Still in operation to this day furniture is still made in the same factory built by the Bernh. Pedersen family at the turn of the century, located in a small community in the Danish countryside. The workshop and it's skilled cabinetmakers are famous for their exquisite and dedicated work based on strong Danish craft traditions; traditions recognized around the world for timeless design, high quality craftsmanship and outstanding longevity. Unique techniques, special tools and original machinery are maintained and used to produce the sideboards in keeping with the first original pieces. The sum of it all is captured in the phrase: "Made in Denmark".
The devil is truly in the details in this piece. The tambour doors that roll seamlessly into the back, a rare technique that few can produce effectively, is pleasing to the eye and functionally ideal. The interior is beautifully finished, with shelves on each side and a middle section with three pull-out box joint trays for added storage. To add extra detail to the design, the legs are pulled slightly under the sideboard to account for skirting, making it possible to place the piece close to the wall. With a finished-veneered back, it can also find great use as a room divider. Perhaps the best conditioned vintage Danish sideboard we've ever acquired, this exceptional credenza won't last long. Make it yours today before it's gone forever.
