Title: A-Frame Teak Writing Desk by Móveis Gerdau, Brazil, c. 1960's

About: Founded in 1908, the small ‘Fábrica de Móveis Navegantes’ in Porto Alegre, was bought by German businessman Johannes Gerdau and his son Walter. Walter, the manager of the business, started the fabrication of bentwood furniture, in the Viennese style developed by the Austrian Michel Thonet in the second half of the 19th century. The small company then went on to design and produce excellent brutalist and minimalist pieces in the early 50's and 60's and are a superb example of early Brazilian Mid-Century Modern design and craftsmanship. The desk itself is like an onion with all kinds of neat features to explore including the opening desk top which opens outward exposing a surprisingly ample amount of storage as well as a horizontally-sliding piece that opens yet another cubby for additional storage. This understated desk is perfect for those who have limited space but are unwilling to compromise with functionality. At time of publishing this is the only Gerdau desk available for sale in North America so when it's gone, it's gone forever. Make it yours today. Note: Chair pictured is not included in this listing and is sold separately.

Condition Details: This perfectly minimal desk is in 100% original, vintage condition! With that said there are no other damages worth noting and the exquisite teak wood grain is stunning in natural light. The right side drawer pulls open and close with ease as does the desk top which opens upward exposing a surprising ample amount of storage space underneath the desk top. This gorgeous little desk is highly functional, structurally sound and ready for decades more of use. Please view all photos for details on this desk's current condition.
