Renowned for his inventive furniture designs and decorative arts, André Dubreuil is a leading contemporary designer, whose background as an antiques dealer and painter informs his famously whimsical works, made in deliberate contrast to what he describes as the “minimal and boring character” of Modernist design.
Dubreuil established himself as a designer in 1986, with the production of his “Spine Chair.” This calligraphic concoction of straight lines and undulating curves, formed into an exaggerated, high-backed chair, riffs off of French 18th-century furniture. Condition Details: This set of "Spine Chairs" has recently undergone a full, comprehensive restoration process. The wrought iron steel surface has been entirely sand-blasted and made rust free once again through a lengthy, labor-intensive process. The metal surfaces have been professionally re-painted in a black semi-gloss, automotive-grade single stage polyurethane paint.
Each chair shows a slight bend and can be seen, however subtly, in the detail photos provided. Pitting also remains where rust was removed and can be seen throughout the surfaces. Though these iconic chairs did not include upholstery, we recommend considering a custom-made upholstery option for added comfort to this stunning set.
