About: Introducing a rare, early pair of "Eyeshade" floor lamps designed by the influential George Nelson for Koch & Lowy. Designed by and for architects this set is as versatile as it is aesthetically captivating. Both able to adjust from a minimum height of 38" to a maximum height of 56" and 46" respectively the taller of the two lamps features a swing arm shade that can swivel circularly in a 360 degree motion. The instantly recognizable, subtle green shades add character and points directly to the great designer George Nelson.
George Nelson was an American industrial designer and is considered the founder of American modernist design. Working extensively as an industrial designer, architect, author, editor, and teacher throughout his prolific career Nelson would go on to have perhaps the most successful and influential career in American design history. Most notably, Nelson served as the Director of Design for Herman Miller between the years of 1947 to 1972 launching or designing some of the most iconic pieces Herman Miller would ever produce.

Condition Details: This iconic set of "Eyeshade" floor lamps is in 100% original, vintage condition and has aged to perfection! The most visible signs of wear are mostly relegated to the steel bases which show some scratches (shown in the detail photos provided). With that said the only other wear present is small surface scratches in the chrome necks and lamp handles (again shown in the detail photos provided).
As purists we strive to keep our pieces in as original condition and possible. However we do offer restoration services and can have the bases of either lamp painted, powder coated or refinished in a material that best suits your discretion. The swingarm lamp head swivels easily 360 degrees, whilst the lamp neck rotates 360 degrees effortlessly. The lamp also adjusts to a max height of 56" and a lowest height of 38" and the lamp stays where you put it with no sagging or worn out bearings. The switch is operable and the lamp remains perfectly balanced even when the lamp is fully extended (36" max width).
