Title: Rare Mid-Century Modern Two Seater Sculpted Bench in Oak & New Two-Toned Upholstery by Arthur Umanoff, USA, c. 1960s

About: Introducing a rare, low stance two-seater bench designed by the influential Arthur Umanoff. Produced in limited numbers, this hard-to-find bench is constructed from a mix of solid and veneered oak. The legs, in their original black paint, were painted to off-set the piece offering a playful two tone theme. In homage to this original design detail we've reupholstered the seats in a vintage-feeling burnt orange and forest green knit fabric that altogether adds to a cheerful piece top to bottom.

Arthur Umanoff (1913–1985) was an American industrial designer renowned for his contributions to Mid-Century Modern furniture, particularly in wrought iron and bentwood. Born in New York, Umanoff studied at the Pratt Institute before establishing his own design practice in the 1940s. He gained prominence for creating functional, sculptural pieces that combined metal frames with organic materials, often collaborating with manufacturers like Raymor to produce affordable yet stylish furniture. His designs, characterized by their playful yet practical forms, became iconic in Mid-Century interiors, with wrought iron chairs and bar stools remaining highly sought after by collectors for their enduring appeal and innovative craftsmanship.

With so few of these benches available for sale, and fewer still in such excellent condition this extraordinary low profile bench is ideal for collectors searching for an authentic Umanoff bench that is ready for a lifetime more of use. Able to blend seamlessly against a myriad of design backdrops this bench's petite size makes it perfect for those who are limited on space but unwilling to compromise on style and functionality. Make it yours today before it gone forever.

Condition Details: This iconic two-seater bench by Arthur Umanoff has recently undergone a partial restoration process featuring new upholstery. The mix of solid and veneered oak frame is in 100% original, vintage condition and shows only minor signs of patina and wear such as nicks and scratches in the ebonized legs as well as the underside of the support rail (the worst of which can be seen in the detail photos provided). With that said the wood is overall very good shape showing no stains, gouges or cracks whatsoever.

As purists, we strive to leave our pieces in as original condition as possible. However we do offer a wide range of restoration services and full carpentry shop. If this service interests you with this piece please message us prior to checkout to discuss options and pricing.

The upholstery, redone in a vintage feeling polyester blend knit fabric with playful, offsetting two-tone orange and green color, is in showroom condition. Both seats feature new medium density foam for maximum comfort and longevity.

This incredibly rare bench is comfortable, structurally sound and ready for a lifetime more of use thanks to its recent restoration process. Please view all photos and natural light video provided for details on this bench's current condition.
