Title: Set of Two (2) Tubular "Z" Table Baes in Brass Rectangular Glass Top Attributed to Karl Springer Coffee Table or Side Tables, USA, c. 1970s
About: This striking set of two Mid-Century Modern tables, attributed to the visionary designer Karl Springer, showcases the bold aesthetic of 1970s American design. Featuring tubular brass "Z"-shaped bases, the set is presented with the two bases paired together supporting a single rectangular glass top, creating a sculptural coffee table that exudes elegance with its polished, warm brass finish. The transparent glass surface highlights the architectural form below, offering versatile functionality. Alternatively, buyers may elect to use the two bases separately; by adding their own square glass tops, they can transform the set into two distinct side or end tables. The minimalist yet dynamic design reflects Springer’s innovative approach, making this piece a perfect accent for a living room, office, or collector’s curated space. Its timeless craftsmanship and luxurious appeal continue to captivate design enthusiasts.
Karl Springer (1931–1991) was a German-born American designer and craftsman whose work became synonymous with luxurious Mid-Century Modern and Postmodern furniture. After moving to the United States in the 1950s, Springer established his eponymous company in New York City, where he pioneered the use of exotic materials like brass, lacquered goatskin, and glass. Known for his bold, sculptural designs and meticulous attention to detail, Springer gained prominence in the 1960s and 1970s, creating custom pieces for high-profile clients and interior designers. His tables, often featuring geometric brass bases and glass tops, remain highly coveted by collectors for their originality and enduring elegance.
