About: Introducing a set of bespoke Model 31 dining chairs designed by the influential Kai Kristiansen. Produced in Denmark in the 1960s these instantly recognizable chairs are constructed from a mix of solid and veneered Burmese teak, which have been sanded and left unfinished showcasing the natural beauty of the wood grain. The curved back and sculptural seat backs add a touch of elegance to the design, while the tapered legs add a sense of lightness and airiness. The seats have been re-strapped and reupholstered in a rich, thick-cut genuine leather hide in a fabulous hazelnut brown tone perfectly off-setting the natural wood tones of the solid teak frames.
Kai Kristiansen was born in Denmark in 1929 and is a key designer of the 20th century. Kristiansen studied as a carpenter an in 1948 he enrolled in the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen under the guidance of influential designer Kaare Klint. At the age of only 26, Kristiansen opened his own studio and started making furniture in what would soon become known as Danish Modern.
His designs were and still are produced by well-known Danish companies such as Feldballes Møbelfabrik, Fornem Møbelkunst, Fritz Hansen, Vildbjerg Møbelfabrik and Magnus Olesen. In the purest modernist style, Kristiansen prefers teak and rosewood in the creation of his works, whether they are chairs, sideboards, desks or bookcases. Today his design objects have great value among collectors, and Kristiansen is universally recognized as one of the most important and talented Scandinavian designers of the twentieth century.

Condition Details: This iconic set of four Model 31 dining chairs has recently undergone a comprehensive and transformative restoration process and we love the results! The solid teak legs and frames have been painstaking sanded and left un-stained with a protective wax coating. There are no deep scratches, stains or gouges present with only minor veneer burns underneath the seats (shown in the detail photos provided) and the natural woodgrains of the unfinished teak is absolutely stunning in natural light.
The leather seats and backrests show only the wear of once living animal (ranch brands, scars etc.) but show no other damage from use whatsoever. All cushions feature new medium density foam for maximum comfort and longevity.
This incredible set of four Model 31's is incredibly comfortable, structurally sound and ready for a literal lifetime more of use thanks to their recent restoration process.
