George Mulhauser was an American industrial designer who gained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for his furniture designs. Condition Details: This iconic set of matching wingback "Mr. Chair" lounge chairs with accompanying ottomans has recently undergone a partial restoration process with one chair featuring new black vinyl upholstery.
The walnut molded plywood shells and bases have been sanded and refinished but still show some minor wear such as veneer repairs, a two inch-long gouge as well as some scratches and pressure dings (all of which can be seen in the detail photos and demonstration video provided). With that said the wood is in over all very good shape and the woodgrains are absolutely stunning in natural light.
The upholstery, redone on one chair and ottoman in a thick black vinyl virtually identical to the original, is in showroom condition and applied in the same scheme as the original factory design. The other chair and ottoman show the original vinyl with minor blemishes which can be seen in the detail photos provided. We strive to keep our pieces in as original condition as possible. If you would like to have the original vinyl replaced to match the second chair please message us prior to checkout.
Both chairs recline and all chairs and ottomans swivel 360 degrees exactly as designed and the tilt adjustment mechanisms are also 100% functional. The steel frames show only minor tarnishing.
