Title: Set of Twelve (12) Model 49 Dining Chairs w/ Two Armchairs in Teak & New Leather by Erik Buch for O. D. Møbler, Denmark, c. 1960s
About: This exceptional set of twelve Model 49 dining chairs by Erik Buch for O.D. Møbler, crafted in Denmark during the 1960s, includes ten side chairs and two captain’s chairs (armchairs), offering a cohesive blend of form and function. Constructed from solid teak with a natural finish, the chairs showcase the wood’s warm, golden-brown tones and fine grain, their sculptural frames exuding the organic elegance of Danish Modern design. The Model 49, designed in 1949, is an iconic piece known for its “floating seat” concept, where the seat appears to hover within the frame, providing both visual lightness and ergonomic comfort. The curved, canted backrests and meticulous joinery highlight Buch’s attention to detail, making these chairs a favorite among collectors and designers. Newly reupholstered in luxurious oxblood Italian leather, the rich, deep red hue adds a bold contrast to the teak, enhancing the set’s sophisticated appeal. Perfect for a grand dining space or a collector’s curated interior, this set embodies the timeless craftsmanship of mid-century Scandinavian design.
