Constructed from a mix of solid and veneered black walnut with exceptional woodgrains and each featuring an elaborate set of bi-folding, hinged doors this extraordinary set is impressive both in scope and form.
The towering gentlemen's dresser contains 21 cubbies for organized storage as well as two large bottom drawers and two smaller drawers located up top concealed behind a set of bi-folding doors. The nine drawer dresser contains six drawers discretely tucked behind another set of bi-folding doors as well as three easy access middle drawers providing more than ample storage space. The rich woodgrains are seductive from all angles and are perfectly offset by the flat black legs and metal hinges which are intentionally made an integral part of the design rather than merely hidden away.
Born in Kansas in 1923, Baughman became one of the most generative American designers of the Mid-Century period. Utilizing the consummate Mid-Century materials such as chrome, stainless steel, glass and walnut he created a new visual vocabulary, building on the legacy of such designers as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer, but infused with the style and ease of the American West Coast.
Baughman worked with dozens of companies throughout his extensive career but his defining collaboration began in 1953, when he started working with Thayer Coggin, the North Carolina manufacturer that still produces Milo Baughman furniture today.
