Title: Rare Teak Folding Covertable Table by Poul Volther for Frem Røjle Converts from Console Table to Dinette Table, Denmark, c. 1960s

About: This rare and innovative Danish Modern table, designed by Poul Volther and manufactured by Frem Røjle in the 1960s, exemplifies the elegance and practicality of mid-century design. Crafted from rich teak, this table features a unique folding mechanism that allows it to transform seamlessly from a three-legged console table with a half-crescent top into a four-legged round dining table that comfortably seats four.

Poul M. Volther was a Danish furniture designer who is remembered above all for his iconic Corona Chair. He trained as a cabinet maker before going on to study design at the Copenhagen Arts & Crafts School. This was a great grounding for a young Volther in both the practical side and the design side which many designers lack. Volther joined FDB Mobler as a designer under Borge Mogensen in 1949 and took over from him as head designer in 1959.

Apart from his work for FDB Volther would go on to teach at Denmark's Design School, where he encouraged hundreds of students to aim for high quality craftsmanship. A believer in Functionalism, he avoided short-lived aesthetic trends, concentrating on the simple crafting of quality materials. He would go on to design for master cabinet maker K Thomsen and also for Frem Røjle, a large successful company which also employed the likes of Hans Olsen.

The table's conversion process is a testament to its thoughtful design: extending the fourth leg and unfolding the half-crescent top on its beautiful period brass hinges creates a spacious round surface. This ingenious design makes it an ideal piece for small but stylish apartments, lofts, or studios, where space efficiency and chic aesthetics are paramount. With its blend of form and function, this table is a standout example of Poul Volther's design legacy.

Origin: Denmark

Proof: Signed

Period: 1960s

Material: Teak | Brass

State: As-Is (Tastefully Aged)

Condition Details: This stunning console table by Poul Volther for Frem Røjle is in 100% original, vintage condition and has aged to perfection! The mix of solid and veneered teak composition is in very good shape given its age showing some surface scratches and nicks (the worst of which can be seen in the detail photos provided). With that said there are no stains or other damage present whatsoever and the variegated woodgrains are absolutely mesmerizing in natural light.

The solid brass hinges show only minor surface scratches and tarnishing. The table easily flips open and the ingenious folding fourth leg easily folds out and in with minimal effort.

This versatile table is ultra-functional, structurally sound and ready for a lifetime more of use. Please view all photos and video for details on this table's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so additional photos and videos are available upon request.
